1. Know your budget (if possible, a range from ideal cost to maximum cost.) This will allow you to create a home you can get excited about… because you can actually afford it! A great budgeting resource is EveryDollar.
2. Get clarity on your nonnegotiables and nice-to-haves, and prioritize. Make a list and get the whole family involved to make sure everyones preferences are accounted for in how you will use and live in your home.
3. Find your lot/land. Ideally, you’ll want to have your property before you begin the design process. This will ensure that the home fits the size of the property as well as the terrain and landscape.
